Day 213 of 365: Working on my Car

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Working on my Car

I'm not a big fan of driving anymore. There's so much maintenance involved that it can drain your pockets dry. Today I had to change my car battery. Here is a small list of what went wrong during the process:

1. The bolts were stripped
2. The tools I used and bought didn't work
3. Had to pay for a battery that was $90 dollars
4. Had to have one of the people working construction in the complex to help me out
5. The bolts were rotten and beat up
6. Had to drive to firestone to get new bolts
7. The bolts I have now are huge.

Remember kids... if you own a car.. take care of it. Don't be like me. I'm an idiot for not doing it the right way.

Night Time in the Complex

The night time is a place I used to be familiar with when I was younger. I don't really shoot at night anymore, but something about it can be quite creepy and yet beautiful at the same time. I will probably do more of these types of photos later on, but we will see.

Bueno Power Music Hour

Untitled-1

Lately I've been getting inspired to listen to bands that help create a vision for my work. As a former musician I still try to keep up with some of the music out there. Lately most of it still lacks the artistic atmosphere bands from the earlier years had. I still look just in case and do come across some fine work, but it doesn't compare to the music I used listen to. So.. what are some of those bands? Read below and find out.

Just got home from Massachusetts. Hung out with Kase Long, ate, caught up, hung around the house for a bit, and then just drove back to Connecticut. Pretty random day.

Day 210 of 365: Lowell Folk Festival

Lowell Folk Festival

Well... the Lowell Folk Festival was pretty cool until the rain started setting in. I was soaking wet, but was able to get some descent shots. I wanted to focus more on the people rather than the festival itself. This was a good opportunity to do some flash work and I haven't done much of it since I moved here. There were a good amount of people there, the action was pretty good and I was in rhythm with everything. Not bad.. not a bad day.

Let's Start the Weekend

This weekend my girlfriend and I decided to head to Massachusetts. The Lowell Folk Festival is happening now and here are some of the images that will kick off this blog for the next few days. I'm pretty stoked on this. Lots of action hanging around the center of the town so I hope to get some good shots! Let's do this...

Day 208 of 365: Broken Tree Part Deux

Broken Tree Part Deux

There are many interesting things you can find just in your backyard. Today I felt inspired to do a more structured like piece. Back inside the forestry section of the complex I went ahead and photographed another tree that was destroyed from the recent storms we had here in Middletown. I looked a little deeper in the tree and the area surrounding it and found some interesting spider webs. The light was just right. I think the photos came out pretty cool.

Refreshed

Today wasn't very eventful, but for some reason the mood was just right. I headed to New Haven in the morning to do some deposit stuff. Toward the drive there, from my parked car, and my small walk to the bank I was able to get a couple of good snaps in-between. When I arrived back home my girlfriend had decided to come home from work early. We went to the pool and took a couple of small snaps. Though that nothing happened the light today was just beautiful all around. I'm satisfied.

Day 206 of 365: Devil's Gear X Mitch Dubey

Devils Gear x Mitch Dubey

I tried to be a bit more productive today by going to Mitch Dubey's bike shop he used to work at. If you guys don't know about Mitch Dubey he was a straight edge, vegan, bike enthusiast who was murdered last year in his own apartment. Though that I didn't know him I wanted to show some respects to a man who was a big part of the scene for so long. I did the best I could to something meaningful, but I don't know if I succeeded. Well.. to you Mitch.. I don't know you personally, but hey... I'm sure you were a great man.

Day 205 of 365: Looking for It

Looking for It

I drove to Wesleyan University just to see if there was anything interesting to photograph there. Turns out nothing was happening. I was really looking for it today, but I managed to fail at that. There were a couple of places that I saw that were sort of cool, but it didn't interest me in the moment. I may have something on the works tomorrow, but we will see. I'm just getting tired of shooting the same stuff.

...And There's Sunday

Today my girlfriend and I just did some errands and hung out. Wasn't much to do. I did go to Guitar Center to pick up some guitar strings for a classical guitar that hasn't been strung for a good amount of years. It plays well and fell sounds great. Yup... happy Sunday.

What's in my Bag

Friday, July 20, 2012

_MG_5408

If you guys are wondering what I've been packing lately when going out to shoot in New York or wherever this is what I'm stuffing in the bag:

Olympus OM-PC w/50mm 1.8
Canon 7 w/Jupiter-12 35mm 2.8
Canon G12
Notebook
Headphones
Sekonic L-308
Diesel Wallet
Ipod
Phone

I'm trying to slim down my setup. Lugging a damn DSLR can be ridiculous at times. The Canon G12 does just fine. Since I've been shooting more film for my personal projects the Olympus is great for farther shots and the Canon 7 is great to get slightly close. I will tweak the setup here and there, but for now this what I have.

At Work with Gus Powell

Didn't do much photographing since I worked all day with Gus. He currently shares a studio with Rachel Comey which both work together getting clothing and such photographed and put online. The whole day I was able to get to know Gus about certain experiences he had, what he likes, and all that jazz. It also allowed me to let him know who I am as a person in general. I love working with this guy and the whole day was a blast. Love it.

Architecture on the 200th Day

Wow.. halfway towards the finish line. It's been quite the ride so far. Today I decided to go outside for a change and photograph in places I've never been to before. It's was slightly successful I think being able to explore territories that are foreign to me. The crappy thing about doing these explorations is that I'm doing them alone. I wish I had a crew of photographers here, but they all seem to not exist in the moment. Oh Well.. Had a fun day though.

Bummin'

I look like this at home when I'm just working on photos or chillin' with the pets. Yesterday my man Michael Johnson told me I was getting lazy photographically. It made me think a bit about it so I decided to shoot a self-portrait. After looking at this photo I never realized how chaotic the kitchen is. There's a lot of stuff in here and I don't know if I like it.

Photographing in San Francisco, CA and seeing certain occurrences happen before my eyes I decided to photograph it.

That's right! I decided to give this online thing a try and allow my zine to be published through MagCloud.com. It will be online until the end of October. I decided to do this because I want to allow the public to get their hands on a copy and get some funds for it. I am currently on a slump and need the money. If you guys can please reblog and help me out!!

It Was a Good Day

Even though today was random it was a day to just relax, eat and hangout with friends and family. Not much to it, but this is what summer represents for me. It's the heat, the food, the people, and the atmosphere that make summers magical. We hang out and just have a good time. Lovin' it...

Today I tried to look for something to shoot. The only thing I got was a shovel that was laying around an abandoned building that was on sale in Newington. I came around the wrong time of day and nothing was happening. I thought the shovel looked cool, thus making it my 365 entry for the day.

Still Life... Simple Design

I keep forgetting that I was once a fine art photographer before becoming a street photographer/photojournalist. In my early years my interests were photographing simple things: Leaves, trees, junk.. you name it. It was something about texture, lines, and design that interested me and how it all pulled together in a photograph. In fine art every detail counts: the crop, the tones, and the emotion are all accounted for. Sure that this image is a simple leaf, but I had a strategy on how to photograph it. I kinda want to do this again tomorrow. It's a lot of fun.

Good Morning

This morning I saw this quality of light illuminate through the trees of the apartment complex. I've been studying this light for awhile and waited for the opportunity to capture it's touch at the right time. It was 6:52 am. The color made me feel. I was in awe how beautiful it was. I'm happy I live in a place like this. So much to shoot if you really think about it.

Round and Round

This morning I went to Branford, Ct for an interview at R.H.D (Resources for Human Development). The interviewee, Kathy, had asked me some questions regarding my background, photography experiences, and what I want to do for the program. There were other questions and such, but all in all I might be able to work there. I may have a second interview next week, but we will see. Afterwards I did other things that weren't important. Stayed home till my girlfriend finished work, picked up our friend Erica, and then went to eat some burritos. Let me tell ya... Iguanas Ranas Suicide Burritos are the bomb-dot-com's.

Photographers I've Been Following: Fashion Portraits

So lately I've been more fashion-ated by certain photographers I've been following as of late. It's been something I've gotten into ever since I've dove in the world of the Sartorialist and such. From there I've looked through many images on Lookbook, certain tumblr fashion pages, and walking around a street full of the uniquely dressed people. Today I present to you some photographers that represent such fashion in a way how I would compose it. These three photographers are definitely on radar so check it out!

I used the flash. I used it with my Canon G12 with a Vivitar 2600-D. I got some pretty decent results, but I'm sure I could've done better.
