Design #2: Shapes

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

This was a final project for my Art Design class. The theme was to make five alphabet designs using original ideas. Mine was based on shapes. I felt it was the only original thing I could think of. With my limited drawing abilities, keeping the designs simple was the only way to go. Each shape expresses a feeling or a movement, the focal point of what I wanted to portray. I may continue with this series of designs when I have the time to do it. For now, photography is a higher priority than drawing. Enjoy.

Patrick Contreras @ The Revue Fresno, Ca

On December 12th, Patrick Contreras and friends performed at the Revue Coffee Shop down in the Tower District. A lovely performance as Patrick and his group played Christmas Songs the whole night. The audience couldn't help, but bring standing ovations for this man. The night was definitely enjoyable.

Current Events as of Lately

These are some of the projects I've been working on. I finally had the opportunity to do some editing. The results were satisfying. Each picture provides a quirky and commercial side of my photography. One of the many styles I love to pursue when I shoot

Fellows

Monday, November 16, 2009

I photographed these fellows awhile ago. Haven't had the opportunity to post them up until now. My distractions were set on other photographs I've taken throughout the semester. With that in mind I would like to explain the subjects and the photographs themselves.
Both of these subjects have different goals in photography. One's a professor while the other is an inspired shooter. One has seen it all and one will see it soon. Thom Halls (first photo) is a known photographer. Some of his work has been published in magazines such as B&W. This is a world renowned publication that displays the best photographers in the black and white world. Thom had the opportunity to promote his work, along with an interview about the experience of being a photographer. I had the pleasure of being one of his students for a couple of years and learned to be a confident photographer learning his perspectives and techniques.
Vincent is heading that progression as photographer, let alone, an artist of some sort. He continues to explore the world of what photography provides. Vincent, every so often, asks advice about photography. I give him all of what I know and he seems to use it to his advantage. Overall, he continues to progress toward his craft.
Between the two I currently am in the middle of seeing it all and seeing it for the first time. The journey to become a better photographer still awaits me with it's long distances of left and right turns. The education of learning from the best to be the best still continues. I long that day to arrive at the finish line.

My brother, my nephew

Sunday, November 8, 2009

At my mother's birthday party I took a couple of shots of the family. While editing the photographs one particular shot got my attention. A sense of comfort I felt while looking at the photo. It was interesting to see the difference of expression of both my brother and nephew. Pretty interesting photo.

Over the Past Few Weeks

Friday, November 6, 2009

I've been busy for the past few weeks studying, photographing, working, editing, creating, and the like. Oliver Oytas created my new watermark for my photos (thanx Oliver). From now on the logo will be on all my photos. It was a good choice of font and design. The essence of it really captures my photos and the person that I am. Very pleased with the turnout.
There has been many arrangements done here. It took me awhile to fix everything up, let alone, find the time to get these photos up and ready. My new home is looking better, but there may be little changes here and there. For now the place is looking great.
These are some of the events of San Fran, Bday surprise, and Donna's apartment.

P.O.W.E.R.

Friday, October 23, 2009

Last Sunday Marc Malabanan and his group organized a benefit for the Philippine typhoons that have hit last month. The event raised all together $4,500 dollars (including clothing and other accessories). All day the filipino community gathered around to eat, watch, entertain, and support the people in need. These photos are some examples of the event. A successful event for a tragedy that occurred.

Vegan/Vegetarian Potluck

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

It was a fun Sunday with friends, food, and wine. Everyone brought their own food to share and everyone had a good time. I loved every minute of it. These kinds of gatherings help me to connect more to my friends. The food they cooked was amazing! Not to mention how much they cooked! My stomach was full! Most of the potlucks I've been to my stomach still growls. Hahahaha. Great job guys. Cooking for friends is fun. You should try it.

Mike, Jesse, and Frick at the Gym

Sunday, October 4, 2009

There's a Gym at Kuppajoe where my band, Elmo Marconi, practices. The Gym lights were off, but there was still some light illuminating through the window. I had my friends stand right where the light illuminated and this is what I got. The light gave a warm color to my subjects. It was fun to shoot and for future projects I could use this idea to my advantage.

Practice Shots (Minolta Film Camera)

Friday, October 2, 2009

Here are some of the photos I've taken using only one roll of film that I received from my lab tech Dan Wong. These are just shots for observational purposes to practice on cropping and to not depend on looking at my digital camera screen for results. I forgot how difficult it can be to be selective toward what you photograph. Having the technology we have today most photographers lose the integrity of finding the perfect moment when it arrives. I want to embrace moments quickly and slowly to have more feel with each shot I take. So here it is. Practice shots with my Minolta (oh by the way the Minolta was bought from a friends yard sale for only $5 bucks. Killer deal right?
