Day 121 of 365: Portfolio Zine Preview + Vlog #37

Monday, April 30, 2012

Portfolio Zine Preview

I just received this little gem today. The package laid nicely on my bed as it awaited for my presence. Now that I got this little Zine I will be able to show it to my Midpoint Reviewer at AAU. The purpose of this was to showcase some of my work in a different format. Much of the students at my school will probably show their work in matted prints. Me on the other hand decided to go the "cheat" route and make my images look like they were part of a publication. What do you think?

The Weekly Sundays Photo Challenge: Isolation

Sunday, April 29, 2012

This weeks pick was "Isolation." This is in my realm of themes which I try to look for while walking around the street. Isolation can be a positive or negative thing. It's a moment where we can feel alone or a moment where we need space. I don't know if I had done the best job in this theme, but a moment had happened while shooting the fashion shoot today.

Day 120 of 365: Jeremy Givens Underwater Shoot

Under Water Fashion Shoot

What a day it was. The whole team made it happen once again. Shoots like these are always interesting to photograph. This was the first time I had the guts to bring my camera in the water. I held my camera tight throughout that shoot which wasn't very long. Luckily I had my flash and wireless trigger to get some dramatic lighting since the overhead light sucked bad. Overall, a great day.

Making Veggie Chicken Adobo

Aside from photographing and playing music cooking food is another thing I love doing. I didn't know what to do with my 365, so I decided to show what I cooked today. It was fun and the food was delicious.

Oliver Oytas

Oliver Oytas

In the week I stayed in Fresno I had the opportunity to hang out with Oliver.... ALOT! I've known him for quite sometime. He's actually the reason why me and Donna are together. Through the years Oliver had gone through tough situations. He's had much to deal with, but it didn't stop him from being the great guy he is today. He currently works at Paprika Studios as a graphic designer and will hopefully continue working with that crew. I don't know if his website is up yet, but you can check out the company he works for here.

Earlier tonight Eldon competed at Game Center. Sadly he lost both matches. That's why I'm here doing this blog... sucky. But yeah.. didn't shoot much. I was actually playing tonight... I got bodied hard.

Fresno Friends

So these are some left over archives I just recently scanned from all the negatives I got developed. Between photographing personal projects I do enjoy photographing the people I know. There's something about photographing friends that makes me feel good. And to capture it on film makes it even better.

Day 117 of 365: At Home Doing Laundry

At Home Doing Laundry

I decided to stay home. Lately my legs have been hurting from all the walking and stress that has been this week and past weekend. I don't usually sit down and do nothing, but today was an exception. Plus I had to finish doing some laundry. It was a pretty good day I must say.

Day 116 of 365: P&S Digital Camera... Color and Movement

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Point and Shoot Digital: Colors and Movement

I've been into blurry images as of late. Something about it has its own character... has its own beauty to it. Using a crappy Point and Shoot Digital Camera can do you wonders. I was lazy to bring out the big guns and was concerned about the rain possibly hittin' San Francisco. I only brought my point and shoots with me for the day. It was a nice change from my usual routine shooting.

Day 115 of 365: Bayardo Home

Bayardo Home

Being a student and having a home away from home can be difficult and emotionally draining. I've had this feeling for the last few years before and after meeting my girlfriend. There's a point where the acceptance does dawn to you and you learn to adjust. I'm thinking about photographing a project about students living situations and how they survive through school. This is something I've thought about for awhile and may be something I want to consider doing soon. We'll see...

Day 114 of 365: AAU Spring Show Rejection + Video

Monday, April 23, 2012

AAU Spring Show Rejection

This year I had entered into the annual AAU Spring Show in hopes to get some recognition from the school. Unfortunately a number of people that got in were mainly Fashion/Commercial/Fine Art pieces which dismissed much of the Documentary work (Rob Schultze, photographer of the Portraits of the 99 was selected this year so there's some hope for Doc Majors). I'm salty, but this is how it is in real life.

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. We celebrated the Earth. The Earth is green and blue, but it may be brown and yellow. Let's not make it brown and yellow. Let's make it green and blue and have lots of trees and have great sandwiches and drink some tea and jump for joy. Earth Day. End Scene.....

Weekly Sunday Photo Challenge: Perfect

This week's challenge theme was "Perfect." Lately I've been longing for more of a conceptual and meaningful perspective in my photography. This thought of perfection has altered my perspectives in life all these years that I didn't know how to be this "perfect" person. Well... I think I found it.... and it started 3 years ago.

Bladimir and the Embassy

After doing a full morning of shooting with Alejandra Bayardo, Bladimir needed me to help him assist a shoot at the Embassy Hotel near the SFO Airport. This was solely for a client who needed some pictures for her fashion portfolio. The models did great, the clothes were nice, and the location was beautiful. Good day for Blad and I...

Pacifica Beaches (Tide Pools)

After doing a street run with Sean Custer we both decided to head to the Tide Pools in Pacifica where my instructor David Wasserman was hosting his class. It was a great opportunity to hang outside of the city. Since it's 4/20 we felt that it would be a good idea to not be around people smoking pot. This is what we needed. It was awesome.

Needles and Pens

Today I was able to put a couple of copies of both zines at Needles and Pens. If you guys don't know about Needles and Pens it's a Zine Book/ Art Store that's located in the Mission District on 16th Street between Dolores and Guerrero. I love the fact that they distribute any type of zine (except racist and homophobic content) and have a great collection of artists that are unknown and up and coming. Pick up a copy of my zine anytime. They are going to be gone pretty quick!!

When Bladimir and I go out we usually just hit up the bars. I don't drink, but I like myself a nice Root Beer on the Rocks. Usually he gets plastered and doesn't remember things until the morning I tell him what had happened.

Day 109 of 365: Strangers Preview

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Strangers Preview

In process is a project I've been working on for the past few months called "Strangers." The concept is to take a picture of a stranger with a point-and-shoot film camera in a public place. My reason was to be able to meet new people without the use of social media networks (facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc...). Since observing individuals in these public places it seems as though much of our society is distracted towards these devices and not observing enough of the people and environment. They're caught up on knowing what's going on with other people than themselves. Sure that having this access may be a benefit to some individuals, but it's definitely affected the way how we communicate with each other. This will be a continuous project for years to come... for now... I am going to settle on a little more for my Concept Class.

City Light Mornings

It starts again as the city sun warms the corners, the people, and the streets. It's great to see the action start immediately in the morning. Ever since I came back from Fresno the energy of the city has pumped me up to shoot. Most of the morning was shot in film so you won't be seeing those images until later. You'll see what I have cooked up before leaving to the East Coast.

Weekly Sunday Photo Challenge: Dreams

This week Alissa Kennedy decided to go with the theme "Dreams." This is something that I do in the daytime more than the nightime. I daydream a lot thinking about the possibilities of my career, about the things I want to do with my girlfriend, and about the places I want to go. It's a never ending thing. When the theme was given to us I didn't know what to do. I then realized after dealing with the rain in the Central Valley that I had something to work with.... and this is what came of it.

GameCenter Documentary

In our Shooting for Publication class we are required to do a documentary piece as a final project. I chose video games since it's been an important staple in my life throughout this semester. Myung, owner of Game Center, had allowed me to photograph him for this documentary. The project will be in progress for the next few weeks. Hopefully all these images will somehow come together. Stay tuned.

The Weekly Sundays Photo Challenge: Mischief

Sunday, April 8, 2012

Hey guys!!! It's that time again! Today's theme is "Mischief." In the Webster Dictionary it states that mischief can mean:

1. action that annoys or irritates
2. a specific injury or damage attributed to a particular agent
3. a cause or source of harm, evil, or irritation
