The Pillagara's / Tagum - Morong Bataan, Philippines / December 2013 - January 2014

I keep looking at these images and remember the feeling I felt being around a family that I have not seen in years. Lots of things have changed. I know I've stated earlier that I wouldn't post anymore pictures of my trip, but I remembered having this ready to post. It just reminds me of what I have that not many others have. I love you all. I miss you dearly.

Basketball Hoop / Lemoore, Ca / December 2013

While having my morning run in Lemoore I started coming across a couple things that looked amazing in the light. Seriously, California light is like no other. The colors are beautiful. And since not many people are up at these hours I found myself seeing things that many people would miss. Especially when I caught this basketball hoop just standing there looking kind of sad. I don't know. The connection with that hoop and I were there. I used to play basketball too.. I wasn't very good at it.

Skaters / Hanford, Ca / December 2013

During my time in Lemoore I headed out to Hanford to see if there was anything going on. Like usual the town was quiet. Seems as though these settings do well for me. Not sure why, but it's the quiet places that make it so interesting. I was walking around the downtown strip where I happened to meet this kid. He told me him and a couple of friends were grinding at the skate park. Those kids were pretty interesting. I only had a couple of shots to work with, but I made most of them count. These were one of them. It was simple. But I think I like it the most. It seems together.

Morning Run / Lemoore, Ca / December 2013

I think I'm going to hold off posting some of the Philippines adventures. I swear. Those rolls I shot really came out. Anyway, before I headed to the P.I. I went ahead and did some running around in my old town of Lemoore. This place absolutely sucks. Nothing really going on. However, I found it fascinating how some of Lemoore's people, places and things make up this creepy, yet, intense vibe around the town. In the morning I did a little bit of running and happened to find some unusual things. These pictures were among the few that I had spotted. Not sure what is going on with that place, but I'm bettin' that things are not looking too good.

Lately I've been photographing a bit on my phone since this is the only outlet of digital photography I've been doing. I've been thinking about doing a Zine that utilizes phone photography as an outlet of everyday. And I gotta admit that having an Instagram has gotten me thinking about how I could use my phone as a tool. I don't totally bury myself in it, but I would like to think of it as an instrument to make measurements. So, hopefully the idea of making a phone photography collaboration Zine with a bunch of photographers I know and respect will surface through. These are my summer plans. Let's see if it can happen.

Half Dead Dog / Tagum, Mindanao, Philippines / January 2014

These dogs in the Philippines don't seem to get the treatment they deserve. They are sort of looked at as a nuisance in a household. But why bother having a dog if you're not going to treat it right? I'm not sure what the situation is, but I think they have dogs to make sure no trespassers come by. However, this dog had scabs written all over his body. He laid there waiting to die. It was sort of sobering moment and I didn't want to invade his space. So I snapped a shot and let him be. Peace be with you buddy. I hope you'll be missed.

HE'LL NEVER REMEMBER ME

Grandfather (In Law) / Tagum, Mindanao, Philippines / December 2013

Before he was diagnosed with a mental health disorder he was a sharp man who worked hard and supported his family to have the things he never had. Throughout our trip I saw him try to be independent, piss himself, change personalities, eat, sleep. It was odd for me. But photographing him in this state was the only way I can remember how he functions.

Mom / Tagum, Mindanao, Philippines / December 2013

I can't understand why my mom doesn't like to smile for pictures. Especially this one here. It's been a mystery to me ever since I noticed, but it's something that I've learned to just accept. I love my mom. And I'm not sure what will happen in the next few years, but I'm hoping she'll be alright. Smile a little mom. Things will get better.

buenopower_com

I did a google search on my name while I was at work and ended up discovering a site that had done a screenshot of my website. And when I looked at it I could't believe the content that I had embedded in the page years ago. It was so messy. Didn't have much space to work with. I think in that time I had this idea that putting in more would make it look "professional?" Guess I was wrong in that department. VERY WRONG. But it's always nice to look back and see how far I've come.

While I had recently revamped the portfolio, this blog, my tumblr and had added a new addition to the family (instagram), I am pretty much set for now. I'm liking how my website looks and love the fact that I can build off a design that I like very much. I'm going to be keeping my logo for long time.

BUSINESS CARD PREVIEW

Friday, March 7, 2014

This is currently a rough draft that I am working on for my business card. I've been wanting to do this for quite sometime and I only need a few tweaks to confirm it. This will become an ongoing series as the clients who end up receiving this will get pictures not seen before. It's a fun idea and I hope I can continue with it.

Priest / Tagum, Mindanao, Philippines / December 2013

After the blessing of the house I was able to get a shot of the priest who he and the bishop would wed me and my wife a week later. This was definitely an interesting moment since I don't get this kind of opportunity to photograph religious folks..

He's calm. At peace. As to much of these folks are aiming for. The clothing, posture... everything about this guy is relaxed. Many religious folks seem to be more uptight. This guy seems real. Thank you my friend for being part of the ceremony. We are happily married.

Sheila Mae and the Furry Stray / Tagum, Mindanao, Philippines / January 2014

I'll be wrapping up these series of photos here pretty soon. I got I bunch of them I haven't posted yet. Don't worry though. They'll be coming around later. Anyway, the family decided to go to the beach a day or so before we flew back to Manila. During our beach hangout I started walking around witnessing the environment. I caught Sheila sort of spending time looking at small creatures in the water while a dog sort of stared at me. They were private moments I was able to catch. Thinking about it now these images sort of resemble my reaction to the environment. Lonely in a deserted place. Yeah... it was kinda like that.
