WHY DO I NEED THIS?

Thursday, August 29, 2013

As to many photographers and photo lovers alike I've been debating on creating an instagram profile. Since this blog is under going some crucial changes I've been thinking about the future of BUENO POWER BLOGZINE. I had even thought about moving this whole blog into a tumblr profile. Of course my stubborn nature prevents me to do such a thing, however, instagram has been looking somewhat appealing over the past few weeks.

I'm resilient to join. I'm sure there are good reasons (maybe even beneficial) to create a profile, but what's the point when I have these networks already. What is it about this network that has people going nuts? Until I decide that I want to make one I will continue to find reasons not to.

Mystic Restroom / Mystic, Ct / April 2013

I seriously have a lot of pictures of me photographing myself on a mirror. I've been thinking about making it into a series, but I'm not sure how I would do it. Anyway, I was doing a project for my documentary class last semester and had stumbled upon this spot in Mystic. This was the only public restroom around. The light was interesting so I took a couple of snaps. I'll probably show some images of what I took before and after this shot, but for now enjoy.

JAPAN CAMERA HUNTER PT. 2

Bellamy Hunt had recently put up another zine I had sent him for his Photography Zines (and Books) series. This particular zine was a collaboration I had done with a friend of mine, Anoush Ekparian, along with other artists. Sadly, I don't have anymore issues to give. Thanks Bellamy once again for promoting my work!

A PEEK AT THE EXHIBITION

Two Friday's ago I had thrown my first official gallery exhibit. With the help of the participants, DJ's, gallery owners, and local support the whole night was a success. Above is just a preview of what happened that night. You guys are just gonna have to wait for the next exhibit to get the full scope of what goes on.

SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER

Apt Complex / Middletown, Ct / August 21, 2013

I sort of screwed up and photographed these images on JPEG (*sigh*). I know that most of my posts have been about film, but I had the feeling of shooting something digital. These were only two snaps of the shutter. It's an odd combination, but for some reason it connected for me. Not sure why. I'm beginning to see the sun turn a different color along with the trees. Maybe seeing these two images are a reminder of what I will be seeing for the next few weeks. I miss fall..

SALTSHAKER

Flavor / Wethersfield, Ct / April 2013

I want to start shooting more still life work again. I haven't had the time nor the patience to look for those things. But as the season starts to shift I think I'll be looking for these kinds of photographs more and more.

GEORGE WEISS THE THIRD

Monday, August 19, 2013

I haven't been posting my own work lately, but I've been in the mood to showcase work I think is inspiring. I've seen this photo on the Olympus Pen F Flickr Group and saw this image on George Weiss's Flickr Profile. Immediately I had been blown away by the composition, the lighting structure, and the expression compiled in four photographs.

But on his Tumblr he cuts the image by two diptychs. This one in particular is my favorite. It's a simple photo, but you can't help the fact that the image was caught beautifully. One camera, one lens, one light, and one subject. That's it. The depth and the color really pop out. And because of this photo I want to get this camera running and start taking portraits like these. Good job George... you really got an eye for detail.

WEIRD SCIENCE

The MAC650 Gallery will be showcasing Weird Science which is moderated by Rachel Caldwell, newest president of the co-op. I'm advertising this event considering how this gallery has been slept on. Last Friday I and a few others were able to get at least 100 people in the gallery exhibiting I'm Not Sure How I Got Here (pictures and video out soon). This event will be held on the 24th and will be exhibited till September 14th and should be equally as amazing if not better.

And on that note knowing the people that I know now I can tell that this community of artists, I feel, aren't represented as much as they should be. Even the gallery seems neglected for the amount of potential it could bring. Hopefully with these small promotions I do for them this place can grow into something big. Rachel is currently taking submissions so if you have a piece you'd like to showcase give her a heads up!

Follow the gallery on Facebook.

SARTORIALIST THROUGH THE CURTAINS

Thursday, August 15, 2013

In most fashion photography imagery seems to fall out of place these days. This is my opinion of course, but I think many photographers miss the point on how fashion should be represented. The Sartorialist has a way of showing not only the beauty of the outfits, but the location it contrasts with. The lighting, posture, expression, the sense of place all combined in a photograph. This image is too good to sleep on.

House Party / West Hartford, Ct / July 2013

A couple of weeks ago I checked out a house party my friend Keith DJ'd. It was a Christmas themed party which was odd, but it didn't stop me from photographing. I forgot how ape shit people go when a DJ plays 90's - early 2000's jams mixed in with liquor and beer. This is just a sample of the series of photos I gathered that night. More to come.

MOMENTS IN THE SAME PLACE AND STREETS FEATURED ON JCH

Screen shot 2013-08-12 at 7.06.07 PM

The other day Japan Camera Hunter posted up two of my zines that he received a couple of weeks ago. He had been talking about pushing this segment for awhile so I sent him some extras that I had lying around. I thought he completely forgot about these zines until a couple of days ago. It's sort of a trip. Thanks Bellamy for the write up!

Bus Transits / Middletown - New Britain, Ct / July 2013

One of the most frustrating things about the area I'm living in is the bus transit system. It's usually late and takes awhile to go from one place to the next. But with the frustration I've acquired interest in seeing if I could make a project out of this. I'm not sure if these pictures are the start of it, but it gives me a good idea.

The summer is quickly ending and I'm still stuck here broke and frustrated. I'm not happy with summers anymore. This could be just my negative thoughts plaguing me, but it seems as though I have a rough time getting by these days. Oh well... on to the next one.

I WAS YOUNG ONE

Julie Paul / Metal Mansion - Fresno, Ca / 2006 - 2007?

Man.. I gotta really learn how to date all my film. This photo was taken for a color class I took in Fresno City College. It was some sort of exercise that I had to do that I wasn't really into. With the help of Julie, however, the shoot actually came out fun. After this shoot I've never thought about using her as a subject again. Not sure why, but I miss this dude.
