Bus Riders / New Britain - West Hartford, Ct / July 2013

It's been slow here... I know.. but I've been so busy with my new job and school. So here I am now... posting images that I've been looking at for a couple of weeks. As you can see I had to take the bus to work for awhile. I had financial trouble and car issues. Both in which don't mix together. Though that I had some hardships here I also saw the brighter side of these things. It gave me a new appreciation about transit. It isn't easy being carless here in Connecticut, but when I took the bus to work I started seeing things in the bus that I wouldn't think about: the people, their expressions, the light that illuminates on the surfaces of the seats, the destinations, the time it took to go from one location to another, and even the fact that I was able to just sit in there and be patient. Maybe later on I could have the opportunity to go back and ride these buses again for my own purposes. But for now.. I'll just drive.

A MOMENT WITH GUS POWELL

Saturday, September 21, 2013

I've been missing these shots lately and Gus Powell does not disappoint. If you've been to New York or have lived there for a good amount of years I'm sure you would understand the amount of nonsense that occurs on the daily. But it isn't just nonsense this picture captures. Somehow there's something connecting the dots among the people and things that surround it. There isn't necessarily a story to this picture, but it could have one. There are all these underlying questions that draw me to his work. it just doesn't make sense, but then it does......

The Warmth of a White Blanket / At Home - Middletown, Ct / September 2013

Just recently I've acquired a lens for an Olympus Pen F camera I bought months ago. The thing has loads of character! I'm loving the vertical prism system as it helps me look through the frame differently. This image was merely a test to see if the camera worked or not. The whole roll was a success, but unfortunately I destroyed the negative by tightening the film on the film plane too much, thus, snapping the film out of the film canister. This led to some frustrations, but I managed to get something out of it. Above all the camera rules and will be shooting with it in the months to come.

THE LIKE YOUNG

SEPT_9_2013_0039-as-Smart-Object-1

The Lovely Ones / Middletown, Ct / September 2013

I was walking out with a friend from the Emporium Cafe when I noticed these kids. Their aura, I guess, drew me in. I took their picture not knowing the result would be. After scanning this image it was clear of what I had missed over the past few years. I miss taking portraits. And this particular image wasn't that complicated to take. It just felt right. As I look at it more and more I can't help, but how "in the moment" they were when the image was taken. Makes me miss being young.

PROJECTS ON HOLD

Friday, September 13, 2013

Remember this project? This was announced back in April. I'm hoping that this will be released in a few months or so, but due to the high load of work I'm sorting out this zine won't be published for a long while. The whole layout is pretty much done, but I want to do a proper release when the time comes. For now stay stoked and stay afloat.

I could say that this summer was a bust, but then again... it was a summer I won't forget. I've finally quit working at Express and Wooster St. Pizza. Those jobs sucked very much, but they did provide me the income I needed for the moment. From now on I will be working for Enemies List Home Recordings doing shipping and packaging along with Xerox doing data entry. As I am writing this down I will be heading out for my 2nd day.

I've learned that the value of the dollar is crucial these times. I've learned that I've gained a good amount of friends. I've learned that my stay here in Connecticut is wonderful. I love it here. I've finally found a foundation to work with.

RECENT ALANA PATERSON SHOOTS

Monday, September 9, 2013

Photographs by Alana Paterson

I've been getting some mixed thoughts about working in the photography industry. There's something about it that doesn't seem appealing. I'm so used to shooting for myself that photographing for commercial industries may be a drag. And then I look at Alana Paterson's work.

Photographically her images are simple and straight to the point, but that's what so appealing about her work. She isn't trying to tell you anything more or less about her photographs. The focus is on the subject/product. They're just straight up honest. You're doing it right Alana. I'm lovin' your shots.

Transit City / New Haven - New Britain / May - July 2013

I still miss these times taking the bus in San Francisco. It sucked very much (probably not as bad as the transit here), but I miss it. There are a lot of unique people who travel in public transit. Most of which are people who can't afford much. I would like to think that a good portion of these people like to use the bus, but I'm sure that isn't the case.

WAKE ME UP WHEN IT'S OVER

MAY_14_2013_0010-as-Smart-Object-1

Man Asleep / Glastonbury, Ct / April 2013

I've been looking at this image for months deciding when to post it up. I don't know why it took me this long to post it, but since the season is turning over I guess it was appropriate to post now. Back in April Keith had shown me some spots to check out when we met up at SO G COFFEE. The weather was starting to warm up and we walked around hanging out. Walking to a dock for a ferry this guy was straight up passed out. Probably soaking in the sun from the months of cold that had happened earlier this year. I don't blame him.
