Down the Soho Strip / New York, NY / March 2013

Another addition to what's been on the streets of New York. This was on the day I met up with Francisco Marin and Gus Powell. I had some time to kill since I arrived in the city early and shot around. This type of lighting isn't my favorite, but I new that I could work with it. Anyway, I'll try to post more work later in the week. Until then...

Boston Marathon Massacre

Source - Boston Big Picture

As the news headlines Boston's Marathon disaster I begin to wonder what will happen next. Knowing about what were are dealing with these days in the aspects of gun control, Korea threatening the U.S., and society finding ways to cope with financial difficulties it's apparent that we are living on some serious times as of right now. The photo above is one of the many photos curated in the Boston Big Picture website. It's an example of a surreal moment sporadically changing in a 1000th of a second.

As I write this entry I couldn't help, but think about society's reaction. I would've hoped a more positive outlook on this tragedy until I stumbled upon this.....

And of course this would be my expectations to how the general public would react. Let me tell ya... only one-side-minded asses would think this way. It's sad to know this doesn't surprise me.

Seriously... this weather needs to brighten up more

So, lately things have been quite slow. The season is over at the portrait studio I work at. The weather still overcast. I'm sitting here on this computer taking pictures of myself with the word "burnout" on my face and thinking of what I should do next. Hurry up Summer... I want to feel something different for a change.

Walking Down SoHo / New York, NY / March 2013

Photography has been taking weird turns lately. I'm sort of reverting back to the old methods of just grabbing all the information in the frame. It's a new thing for me to photograph this stuff using a 50mm. I would usually shoot using wide lenses, but the 50mm is the only thing I can work with right now. Anyway, this is just a preview of what I am dealing with in New York. I'm going back there pretty soon to collect more work for a project that I've been working on for awhile. We'll see what happens.

Coming Soon - Side Project

sideprojectsupdate2013

It's been a long time coming (many weeks and months of being really busy with school and work really does that with much of my projects). I had offered the idea among my friends who carry on that same aesthetic in photography and they thought it was great. Last year I released a split with them called Streets which was a black and white outlook of our work together. This year we reverted back into some of the work we've produced over the months and decided to combine it into a project. Side Projects is a perspective of work the three of us overlooked or had no way of knowing how to release. The idea was to show some of the thought processes of a project that failed or showed a rough design to what we were thinking at the time. In the weeks to come I will let you guys know the release date on this. Till then... stay stoked.

Last month wasn't so bad. It got more productive with work and school. I was able to meet some people, see a friend that I miss a lot, and photograph myself in ways I wouldn't think I would photograph. This is an interesting series of images I'm doing. I'm loving it.

My Thoughts All Down the Drain
My Thoughts All Down the Drain

Metal Mansion Bathroom Sink / Fresno, Ca / 2007

By the many nights I dealt with drunkenness, nights I've felt uneasy, or moments where I needed to look in the mirror and see how haggard I looked this sink represented how I felt: dirty, stale, and ready to collapse. Those were some of my dark years struggling to stay warm, find food, or just stay happy. I've done a lot of shitty things to people those times. Met girls that became nuisances. I will always remember this sink... the smell, the atmosphere, the clutter. Many years... my life. Just like this fucking sink.

WINTER PORTRAITS
WINTER PORTRAITS

Helena / Hartford, CT / January 2013

I haven't been posting very much due to the fact that I've been busy with school, work, and confirmation classes (yes... got confirmed as a Catholic.... it's kinda weird). I forgot that these pictures were taken a few months back. It was only recent that I had developed these rolls and had found some treasures that I forgot I've captured. This was shot during a winter shoot I did with Kasey. It was fun, but very cold.
